Morning all.

Jonny Smith paid an interesting visit to a very streamlined recycling centre this week.

Trent have basically reversed the OEM assembly process, and then applied a bit of Amazon.

May be a useful source of parts moving forwards...

It’s a slick operation but the old fashioned American pull a part places are more my thing!

I'm 5 minutes drive from that warehouse. Built in 2022 at great cost, am I being cynical thinking spare parts from Trent's will now become much dearer?;)

On reflection, those rose-tinted youthful scrabblings around dirty scrapyards avoiding the chained-up Alsatian wasn't that much fun.

For that matter not seeing the underside of any car for some time hasn't left me crestfallen and broken.

Not scraping my knuckles or running various fluids down my sleeves has not left me with any withdrawal symptoms I think I always will have to accept I am a recovering caraholic and be careful that my urge to buy a "classic" car is kept well suppressed.

The trouble is I don't like fishing, golf or tedious and pointless games.

Methinks I have reached an awkward age:)

The company where relative works tried this parts recycling thing years ago but found it too time consuming and uneconomic. They now shred 10000 cars a month, having removed working motors, cat converters and batteries, everything else gets turned into tiny framents and sorted automatically. Exported in containers.

Thing I like about decent classic. Is tinkering but with no inclusion of urgency or struggle. I won't buy a rot box. I will lift the head on my NG 1800 in a week or so, to check a leaking valve on one cyl, I have collected the seals gaskets involved, less than 30 quid. And I have all the tooling. I won't care if it takes me 2 days or a month . And I will enjoy motor more when done
I sure don't enjoy any prospect of working on my250 ml.!!

Trouble with newish cars, I am always afraid I will break some plastic part getting to the real part I am attempting to change/renew. ThosE plastic parts that must cost pennies to make you need a second mortgage to pay for. Best car to work on was my old Triumph Spitfire. My neighbour (a carpenter) made me a wooden seat that fitted over the front wheel on either side so I could sit comfortably whilst tinkering with the bonnet fully tipped forward. I even have spare rear half-shafts and hubs so I could change the lower trunnions, which seems to be an annual task pre-MOT.

half the fun was crawling around inside a car perched at the top of a 3 car stack .... and you could have a practice at the yard to see how it came apart. :)
Only 3 high? :) I remember being up a teetering 4 high stack in Longford with aircraft landing overhead and the vortex wakes whipping through the yard! Oh to be young and naive again.
