Does anyone know where to get a V-Class suspension compressor rebuilt. I have the old compressor and would like it as a back up spare.
I bought my V-Class new 7 years ago and now has 150k on the clock. At 5 years old it had its first compressor change, so amid all the negativity I do not think the V-Class is as bad as the reports. (or have I been lucky). As for regular servicing which I do myself it has been very reliable. Yes it does have some niggling problems which Mercedes do nothing about like glow-plugs seized into the cylinder head (starts fine without them), doors which lock sometimes (new wiring required), paint chips to the bonnet ("water based paint Guv not a lot we can do about it"). In the 7 years I have owned the vehicle it has had 1 x n/s outside driveshaft boot, 1 x o/s inner driveshaft boot, rear antiroll bar droplink bushes and d-bushes 1 x rear exhaust, 1 x cat replaced with stainless non-cat front pipe. Not too bad for 150k To date I am very happy with the vehicle.

You have been lucky...don't change it. You won't get another like it.

I too would love to find someone who could rebuild the compressor, mine has stopped working. My V class is a 99 model and has not yet clocked 40K. Doh!

Hi M8,
you have been very lucky my 2000 V220Cdi (bought new) was a nightmare and every other v-class ovner I have spoken to have has similar stories.
I would be tempted to spend your money on having the suspension converted back to the van type.

Airbags removed today and springs put on. This is an easy conversion and takes 1 hour to do both sides. All the original suspension parts except the airbags are left in situ so if ever I win the lottery I can change back to air. I have not noticed any difference in the ride when empty so I mwould assume it will be fine when loaded. £200 well spent.

Use the original shock absorbers that are on the vehicle....They are all the same part number....
I would advise you change the shacks if they have done a high mileage as the can wear without leaking.
I have renewed my rear and front shocks and the difference is very noticable

There is not a lot to see in the compressor, I thought I could repair mine but it was not to be, I also took it to my local motor rewind workshop and they said they wouldn't touch it with the proverbial barge pole!!!!
If you want to mess about with them speak to your local stealership and ask them to keep a couple of old compressors aside for you as they only dump them. To my knowledge they are not refurbishable.....

The motor is very light and tends to burn out prematurely
The valves stick and give all sorts of problems.
Stealership has to reset the ride height once it has been repaired

compressor repairs

I'm relatively new to V class ownership (last 2 years). Mine had a compressor fault after I bought it. I took it apart and saw one of the magnets had come away on the electrical side. I managed to get another faulty one off a chap who outbid me on one on ebay for £10 (postage cost). His had gone on the mechanical side (either valve or piston ring). I put the two parts together (tightened them) and it works fine ever since. So it can be done quite easily with two good halves, so hope this helps.

The only thing is it doesn't raise itself automatically with the ignition. Having read your threads I was wondering if its because the ride height needs resetting at the Stealership, can anyone enlighten me please?.

Also I have discovered details of a company in Germany who will sell you an uprated NEW compressor of superior spec. (not a Merecedes part) for £300 plus delivery!.

Hi I'm new to the forum so not sure if I'm doing this right. Can you tell me where you got the coil springs to replace the air bags? Did you buy it in kit form made especially for this job or is it just standard vito van coils.

What did it comprise of? Did you need to bolt cups to the wishbone & the body to hold the coils in place?

I've seen the compressor in Germany for £300, does anyone know if anyone has bought and fit one of these to the v class? Did it work ok? Not brave enough to shell out the £300 yet as my German isn't up to scratch.

Ah now I'm getting the hang of it!

I've made one good compressor out of two bad ones, but mine doesn't raise automatically with the ignition, is that because the ride height needs resetting or do I have an electrical fault?.

Hmang: The item is the same as the item no. for the compressor on ebay (seller $-zahn), in fact I think its gone down a little in price.
