I have a 2001 2.2 CDI V Class with 50,000 miles on it. The rear suspension has begun to play up!
It was originally just giving the warning light on the dash occasionally and for a couple of seconds after switching off. At this point I took it to a local Mercedes "expert", who plugged it in to his computer. Naturally it showed no fault! He said that he knew of another which also had the the warning light showing for a few seconds after switching off and this was probably normal! The situation has now become worse and the warning light is permanently on and can not be overriden with the switch on the dashboard. The suspension, however, sems to be operating normally!
Does anyone ,please, have any clues as to where to look for the fault?

If the suspension is working ok I would leave it alone. If it does eventually break got it swapped for the van suspension (~£600)

sounds to me like a faulty level sensor on the van. Had the same sort of fault recently. As it was under waranty we chucked it back at the dealer they fitted a new compressor assembly then drove it out and burst the air bags because one sensor was reading too high although it sat leve the button didnt work to overide it unless we manually lowered the bags

Your Mercedes
W638, W140, W220, W639 All gone but not forgotten
I have just converted to springs at a cost of £200.00 and 1 hours labour to fit them, you do not notice the difference in the ride. Money well spent
