V. poor radio reception on AM

On my W210 E saloon the radio rieception is very poor (read non existant) when used on AM bands.

Does this use the same arial contact as the FM and where does it go after that?
I know it uses the rear screen but could do with more info.

Any known issues?

In the old days you had to "tune out" the capacitance of the aerial co-ax before you could get decent AM reception.

I asume the laws of Physics haven't changed since then, so you may still have to do this.

It's normally a very small trimmer hidden under a sticker or something. Have a look in the Stereo manual, it should be in there.

Thanks for the reply Paul but i don't think it applies as the set uses digital tuning. The trimmer was to ballance the capacitance for the capacitive tuner.

The arial co-ax wire had broken inside the set connector.

Hi,

A newbie here.I have a similar AM reception problem on a W210 320cdi estste 2001.The factory fitted HU worked fine but my replacement JVC has perfect FM but almost no AM.

Halfords sold me a windscreen antenna which didn't help.

Is there anything else i should check or replace?The FM is good so i presume the ariel is good.
