v230 gearbox fault

hi i need help
i loose drive after about 300yrd ! you can turn off the engine and then start it straight up again and drive for about the same distance before it happens again, its a auto box but i cannot work out why it does this i have been told it could be torque converter or the transmission oil filter blocked.
i would appreciate any idea's from you guys

The gearbox fluid level needs to be checked and the gearbox sump needs to come off for a visual inspection. (see how much metal swarf is inside). Your box is probably knackerd.
