At high RPM / kickdown on the highway I think I'm
burning transmission fluid... '84 500SL... Can a torn
or perforated vacuum diaphragm allow trans fluid to
be drawn into the air cleaner?

Any other suggestions? Possible main seal for front
pump to torque convertor (99% sure it is not overfilled).

Thank you.

yes, in theory... check by pulling off the pipe to the modulator and sucking on it - you shouldnt be able to suck more than a tiny amount, once. does the pipe have fluid in it?

its an easy thing to replace, but you need (usually) a new adjuster / cover as it gets broken when you remove it (by design, not incompetance ;) )
