Looking for the vacuum pump that controls the central locking for my 1998 W140 S Class. The specific part number is A 140 800 32 48. Located in the UK. Also if you know of a parts supplier or re-manufacturer that would be helpful. jtkelly@moffatdickson.com

You can change the pump motor from 202 or 210, these can be bought for £25

Repair the Central Locking Pump

You can change the pump motor from 202 or 210, these can be bought for £25

Thank you for your information. I am struggling to find a replacement vacuum pump so will follow up on your suggestion. If I take out the faulty pump to find someone to replace the motor do you know if I will be able to run the car OK?

I am in Northampton and need to find an electrical engineer. Do you have any suggestions regarding a company that will undertake this job.

Thanks in advance.

Yes you can run the car without the pump connected, and you can use the key to lock the doors, the heater nay not function correctly as the PSE pump supplies supplementary air for the flaps.

I have been running my 140 with a pump motor from an old 126 for 2 years now, it need someone with a bit of flexibility as the motor will need packing with rubber.

The boot locking will be strange with out the pump but it will work

I think that maybe member jib could do this, he is not that far in the Cambridge boarder, I could guide him through it, there are only 2 wires to solder on.

Many thanks for your reply. I am taking the Mercedes to my garage for a service and will see if they can take out the pump and test what does/does not work. As long as I can lock the car that should be OK.
If I buy a 202 or 210 pump is there a specific part number I should look for as there are a lot on ebay? Do you know if member jib could do this or could I send it to you?
Many thanks
John

Many thanks for the suggestion. I contacted Carl but he does not have one in stock. I just realised that I replied to Television saying that I would ask my garage to take out the pump and see what doesn't work as well as whether you would be able to fix the faulty pump.
Is that something you could do?
Many thanks
John

I lock the drivers door with the key but this often needs some coaching by pressing down on the button. The other doors are locked internally by pushing down the button.
The boot locks by inserting the key and turning to the right. To open the boot I insert the key and turn and hold the key to the left and push the lock in.
