Hi, I have just joined the forum. I have become the proud and slightly confused owner of a Mercedes and have no real idea of what I have.

My car is an N registration (1996 I believe) E320 Couple. It has done approximately 110,000 miles, beige leather interior, metallic burgundy etc and has the automatic gearbox with an "E" and "S" switch next to the selector.

I wanted to insure the car with a classic insurer but really don't know what the valuation of the car should be.

I will post pictures tomorrow as I haven't had a chance to do any today if anyone thinks they will help.

Any guidance on this would be gratefully received as I really enjoy the car, it is far better than the Granada Scorpio Cosworth I had previously and I don't think I could afford to replace it.

Hello and welcome. Your car will be a 210 Eclass, or the last of the 124 that were called E class. take a look in the front window bottom passenger side for the number

The coupes are worth more than the saloons and are the most sought after.

You will get many more answers later.

Thanks Malcolm. I have checked the car and there is some information about airbags and the other number is WDB1240522C282397.
I presume this is the chassis number or VIN but does this also tell me anything else about the car ?

Thanks very much for all the help. The check from the number is absolutely on the money - it describes everything on the car. Are these options on all cars or is each one tailored to its first owner ?

Was I naieve paying £2850? I asked a few people I know and they all said that that was a very good price for this car, I couldn't find any to do any sort of comparison with so I took their word.

Prices for C124s are all over the place and seem to depend on condition, specification and history.

It appears yours doesn't have AC, if the car has a decent history and is in good condition ie. original and no rust or damage then £2850 sounds like a reasonable price.

Look on Autotrader and Pistonheads for similar cars, prices seem to range from £1500 for a high mileage, tired car with low spec and no history to £5k and over for A1 condition, top specs and full dealer history.

Some dealers charge silly money for these (over 8k) but it seems that they sell for less than list and these cars will in theory be in tip top condition.

Look after it, if you don't skimp on maintenance it should hold its value and they're lovely cars.

Ade
