Hi,
been lurking in the background for a while, reading, watching, learning.
Introduce myself, live in cambs, left cars for heavy commecials, playing with nuts and bolts for 35 yrs, time served, and college.Bought cheap 190e £250 sweet as a nut,but untidy 8),bought a cheap 260e,I thought to swap some trim and wheels
Loved metallic black 260e but needed engine,bought1989 300te4matic for engine,as ABS problem but smooth engine :D Replaced relays in ABS been fine since
So £800 later I am the proud owner of two taxed and tested MB's :D
Which brings me too my valve timing question,
The top speed of my 300te is 100 mph @6500 rpm from what I have read this seems low, which brings me to a head job done a few months before I bought the vehicle, proof of this work pipe grip marks on the end of the cam  plus the receipts.(Removed cam polished and replaced leaking seal) So can cam timing be a tooth out,and still run smooth on tickover? The engine revs on the road will hit indicated 7500 in the blink of an eye  seems power is late coming in @4500 rpm,any ideas gratefully received. Thanks for listening

Hi,
thanks for reply, done all that, all spot on.To be honest starting to suspect allsorts, engine starts and runs ok.Full throttle it will make 100 mph,but won't cruise at 80 without throttle. If you drove it round town you wouldn't know, all four gears appear to be there, been lucky with car and would keep, suppose will have to physically check valve timing, just feel perhaps loss of vacumn ie. valves late opening.Didn't know top speed expecting from this model, comp. good at 160, even across cyl, plugs clean, definately 3.0l. Engine don't seem to relax
