Vaneo W414 engine change?

Hi All

I am running a Vaneo W414 with over 400,000 km on the clock, its getting tired and smokey. Thought i would find a lower millage motor to swap it out. I have changed motors before but only on older simpler cars Peugot 205 citroen C15 mini metro, but never a Merc.

What do i need to know? whats the story with coded ignition etc. After much searching i cant find much info so any advice would be great.

Is it the same engine as some A class?

I have the engine code om 668 914 im now busy looking for a replacement but i still dont know what software issues i might come across. I read that some may have a coded starter motor. To get round that i will reinstall the existing SM. As for the rest i cant find much info.

any thoughts?

What sort of engine are you thinking of upgrading to in the Merc range? your swap will be nothing like the old days and personally a massive headache on a modern upgrade unless you are very good at auto electrical stuff, wiring looms etc. dropping an engine/box in is the easy part. Sorry dont know enough on this subject to comment any further, my advice is to spend all the money you would on upgrading that engine on upgrading the vehicle. Good luck maybe you'll find somebody thats done this and willing to share their knowledge?
