Vanishing LED lights on dashboard

HI

I have a 1996 c180 ................. a problem has developed and I cant work it out , every so often all the electric display on the dash dissappears as if someone has flicked a switch , the only way i can get it back is to turn key ignition off and on and it comes back

any suggestions please
