I have a problem with my 1990 190E 2L.
Theres a nasty vibration at speeds over about 55ish. The only thing is that some days its not too bad and some days its really annoying.
You can feel it through the steering wheel and sometimes you can see the dash vibrating when its really bad. You can't really feel much over the transmission tunnel or through the gear lever.

Tyre wear seems to be very uneven on the NSF tyre - a tracking problem or a symptom of whatever is wrong?

Any suggestions would be most welcome.

(There was an incident a couple of years ago whereby someone (!!) went from 1st to reverse instead of 2nd! ... made lots of interesting noises... or so I heard (!!!) Could this kind of problem be caused by damage to the gears which only manifests when the damaged components are lined up in a certain way maybe? Would this be felt through the steering wheel though?)

the rubber bush on the propshaft is the problem.
i used to have a 190 and when i drove it ,at about 50mph i used to get
vibration through the whole car
there are 2 rubber type donutes on the prop, check both for damage
they somtimes split between the bolts.

Wow! They really must have been trying - I find reverse takes some effort to select.

Mike.

Have you checked wheel balancing mate?? Thats the most obvious thing.

then you could check bushes and tracking. But if its occuring at about 50-60 then most likely to be unbalanced wheels, damaged wheels or tyres...
