My C240 seems to be experiencing a midlife crisis. Wasn't sure about the right section for this so if I'm in the wrong section please don't shoot!

Both issues are popping up at me on the display on the dash. The first keeps telling me to check the oil. After a long list of 'Perf. Serv. on Time', finally figured out what that was after 2 months & cracking open the handbook, thought it was just telling me off cos the service was overdue! I tested it on a flat surface & it asked for 2 litres. I had one litre in the boot so I put that in for the time being. The next day it flashed red at me saying to reduce the oil level! I only got this warning once then it went back to asking for 2 litres, maybe my maths is wrong but as I added 1 already surely it would only be 1 more? I'm now too scared to do anything as I don't like the red alerts.

The second thing is the rear right reverse light warning. I have now changed this bulb 3 times & it keeps going again within a couple of days & messages pop up when I put it in reverse, but not every time.

I had the car serviced in April.

I would really appreciate some input before going anywhere near a mechanic & possibly getting ripped off big time. I don't want to be convinced that something major needs doing if it doesn't. I have noticed that when a young female Mercedes driver enters a garage £ signs start pinging up!

which model c240 is that? sounds like an oil level sensor fault, fairly easy to diagnose for a garage and not uncommon. you may have a dipstick to measure your oil level manually.

as for the reverse light bulb, which bulb are you fitting? is it a no.382 12v 21w? next time check the bulb holder for damage to the contacts, could be fairly simple.

I'm not sure. It's X reg. A google search tells me 203, does that mean anything?

I've looked for a dipstick but can't find one anywhere. Is an oil level sensor expensive to fix? What sort of price range should I expect to be quoted?

The bulbs were given to me by a guy who helps me with basic maintenance so I'll jot down the bulb you've said & go & get one as I can't be sure that this is what he has provided.

Thanks.

Does you r car have round headlights, if so a W203, else a W202. The chassis no. will be on the foot of the winscreen/ on the door pillar.

If your display says add 2 litres always add half that amount otherwise the high oil warning will display.

Your oil level sensor may be ok.

Check the bulb holder for corrosion and replace if necessary.
