depends on what type you have. if it is a radio only transmitter then in theroy it can be jammed by sheilding the transmission ariel. so you need to put the vehicle in something that will not allow the radio signal to pass thru it for the duration of the battery power discharge. You can do the slightly ham fisted way of overpower the signal by using a multi frequecy radio transmitter which will send out lots of signals thus masking the frequecny from someone trying to locat the frequency but then, the locating device is looking for a specific frequecny so you just tend to make it easy for them to find as you need to make your device more powerful then the original so it can be traced from further away.
if it has a global sattelite system the same thing can be done but the frequency that is used is a lot higher so it sends out 2 frequecy transimssions instead of one.
and the people who would do this would need to know you had the device on in the first place which is why these devices are not advertised.
it is very simple to find one in your vehicle and disconnect it, if they suspect it is in there in the first place. but when you consider they need to remove lots of stuff to guess where it may be put it becomes time consuming and the device may well be fastened inside soemthing they cannot remove that easily. this is why if you fly a helicopter over some roads in african countries where a lot of vehicles stolen, end up your screen lights up like a chirstmas tree.the signals are still active.
the idea of the latest systems is to send out the signal before they get the vehcile to somewhere they can sheild it.
once the system has been activated it takes around 5 mins for the vehcile to be located. and some systems warn the locater units as they are being stolen and then the owner is informed there vehicle is being moved by unauthorised means. and thatcham class 2 or 1 alarms are meant to prevent theft intrustions for 5 mintues...so if the police were within 5 mintues of a vehcile whose tracking device has been activated the theroy goes that the police will find the theives in the car before they get the alarm circumvented.
this is why they nick your keys. the systems thinks it is authorised and they can drive it somewhere and ship it out of disconnect the device without anyone knowing and they dont damage your car in doing so. so it either goes and disappears for a new life or you get in back without any problems other than the milage. unless it is "Joyriders" who set fire to it. Mindless wanton distruction which gets really annoying for the insurance companies coz they have to pay out.
