I have a 1981 200t, the rear suspension is unbelievably bouncy i am not sure whether or not this is normal with these cars or not. I have recently drained the AT fluid that was in the suspension oil reservoir when i bought it and replaced it with the proper benz stuff.

Are there any seals in the system that could have failed causing it to be so bouncy or could it be that the shocks need replacing? there is no oil loss from the system.

Any thought, advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Jim

Hi Jimmer,

The only two thoughts I have are could there possibly be air still left in the hydraulic fluid system? Do these systems need 'bleeding' in any way if you do a total change of suspension hydraulic oil?

If there are no leaks of oil from the system (How accurate is the diptick in the fluid reservoir?) then I doubt you have any seals or rear struts that have failed.

I'm not a mechanic but my previous car, 1986 190E (W201), had self-levelling rear suspension and in my case the suspension pump was a mechanical type that bolted to the crankshaft at the front of the engine. The hydraulic oil reservoir was located next to the off-side headlight.

I hope you get your problem sorted soon.

Search the forum. This as been covered recently.

It will be that the gas spheres have gone flat so there is no rear springing. Fit new spheres.
