very sad and disheartened vito woman!

hi billy here new to the forum tonight as the problem with my 2000 diesel vito only reared its ugly and noisy head this evening.
problem is when driving an alarm is bleeping from the dash somewhere!!!
it stops when stationary at lights or junctions and continues when i drive off again!!!
simultaneously the handbrake light is illuminated.!

please help if you can worried it may be costly and sadly even terminal.

Hand brake warning.

Hi Billy,
Assuming that the handbrake is being released, the problem sounds like it is a faulty h/b warning switch. Less likely is that there is a wiring fault in the h/b warning light circuit. Needs to be checked out with a meter.

wht do you think the alarm sound is. there is no mention of any alarm in the handbook only warning lamp indicators. ps many thaks for your time billy

Could also be low on brake fluid so please check that one first..some ppl get the lights mixed up

The alarm is warning you your handbrake is still applied and if driven you will burn out your parking shoes in the rear brakes.

But dont worry, if the handbrake lever is down then the brake is off and the switch at the bottom of the lever is broken or come out of its holder, will be easy to fix.

the alarm comes on when you drive with the handbrake on. so it thinks the brakes are on ,that is why the light is on in the dashboard. if the handbrake/footbrake in my case is off or down then it must be an electrical problem, or low brake fluid. leaky flexi hoses
