Hi,

Recently, I have been experiencing a vibration from my E270. :(

I can best describe it as being worse when the car is in drive and just idling,
although it is apparent when in N,R and P. The gear box is as smooth as anything as is the engine and there is no loss of power.

I can feel the vibration slightly with my foot on the accelerator too. The engine mounts have recently been replaced, but this hasn't really solve the problem although they were well worn.

Has anyone any thoughts as too what might be causing this? Thanks.

Yes I can relate to that, we replaced my engine mounts today as I had the same vibration.
All fixed now.

I am waiting for mine to fail on the 2002 SL500, many have failed at around the 95k mark.

The right front one wasn't too bad on ours, the left front had lost all its oil and once it was on the garage floor lying on its side the remainder of the oil flowed out

I suppose being oil filled is quite good, they are either good or bad, could you feel yours were faulty in the car.

Oh yes most definitely, it was very noticeable at idle whether in gear or out and driving you could feel a slight vibe in the steering wheel. All gone now, the sump looked like it was sitting on the steering rack it was so close.

Thanks for the replies, I could also feel a slight vibration through the steering wheel. Problem is, I have just had the engine mounts replaced and the gear box mounts but there is still a vibration. Could it be anything else?

I do not know what a drive plate is other than the flywheel,

Ok thanks TV...it's going back up on the ramp so will have all suggested problems checked. Apparently, there is a flexible drive plate, whatever that is, between the engine and gear box. Hopefully everything will be resolved soon.

Like I say, it drives fantastically well....just gone over 185,000 miles! :D

Apologies...I think it is just a flexible plate...

So....over the last few days, in addition to the new engine mounts, I've now had the rubber O rings under the air box replaced as it seemed the box was vibrating a lot, to no avail. The vibration is still there and if anything sounds worse. It's driving me insane!

Any further suggestions? Thanks.

I am going to throw in a total wildcard - along the lines of Malcolm's suggestion of a power steering hose where it shouldn't be. I had a timing belt changed on a Maestro van (yes, it's going back a while!) and driving the van back from the garage my teeth hurt with the vibration being fed through. The engine was rock steady on idle and revving it in neutral - too steady..

It turned out that during re-assembly a hose clip was wedged against the body so all the engine vibration was passing through the body and not being absorbed through the engine mounts.

vibrations are nearly impossible to find.
i had a bad vibration on my 1998 w210 and i nearly cured it with a new shift bushing for 3 quid but now thats gone quiet another vibration is coming through so i changed the centre prop bearing and that eliminated more noise but still vibrates at 1400rpm until hot and then vibration is less but still there.

Will go back and check all again...thanks David.
