S500 W140 99/00 LWB model with 43k on the clock.

I didn't buy the S500 by accident and I do use the go and stop buttons with some vigour but nothing too excessive. The 1st 19k were allegedly done by the chauffeur so this motor should be very young by MB standards.

There's a vibration through the car :(

30-120mph+ detectable wobble
55mph sustantial wobble
Vibration varies from day to day and sometimes more on corners than straight.

The dealer said he'd tried new wheels and that fixed it, and advised me to buy some new ones; much poorer now but with no less wobble I did :(

I've asked them to check prop, suspension, shocks, drive shafts etc etc which they say they have or dismiss as unrelated.

I rigorously checked all new (and old) wheels and tyres for balance & true and dealer has too - still seems to think it wheels - but suspect that's more egg on face than anything - and my bill :) for damages or the like

There is a wobble on braking, biggest at 55mph, front pads & disks need replacing but dealer says that's not the problem, so I've asked them to fix the problem before changing them - if they can't fix it then of course that's next.

This problem has been bugging me for ages and there was a OSF suspension spring broken, both front springs repaired under warranty :), but not sure if this was caused by the wobble or my current wobble is a result of 'damage' from the damaged spring.

The dealer is not exactly being professional on quality control; number of pretty petit but silly little mistakes, but I'm loathed to take it elsewhere until they've sorted this out - free of charge I imagine in the end, plus some compensation perhaps.

Ideas on what might be causing this very gratefully rx'd.

It's my 2nd S500/W140 and what a motor - just it wobbles now :(.

Vibration S500-W140 - not wheels

Did the dealer put new tyres on the new rims or use the existing ones?

......only it could be a duff tyre. someone at work had an identical problem on a BMW and it took ages to trace the fault. Turned out it was a tyre that was slightly malformed.

Failing that, the only other thing that shouts at me is perhaps warped disks but even that would be most prevalent at low speeds rather than at 55.

IMHO it sounds like your dealer is being less than professional. Best thing  (if its not the tyres) is to get the car up on stands yourself and start moving things about looking for the cause. Any play in the suspension linkages, sticking of brakes, rough wheel bearings, perished bushes etc etc.

Vibration S500-W140 - not wheels

New rubber all round

Had a go at lift and shake etc but nothing obvious, will have another go.

Suspect the disks are warped but want to see the dealer eat humble pie and rule out the wheels and tyres.

Vibration S500-W140 - not wheels

Hi,

Just had a vibration sorted on my E300 diesel it was a prop shaft bolt sheared on the hardy coupling on the gearbox output. The vibration was from 25 to around 70 mph. The things I checked were wheels, weights, tyres etc. Took it to my local Merc dealer and they sorted it straight away.

Hope you get it fixed.
