:D Fingers crossed buying from a one man small dealer who works from home.

Where are the VIN located on the M Class?

He said he has already completed hpi via work. Should I do a seperate one?

Many thanks - almost there!

YES - or at the minimum call HPI and verify it's authenticity.
The VIN on all cars these days is located on a plate at the bottom LH corner of the windscreen. This should be compared to the others too. Normally bonnet slam panel and floor pan by the driver's seat.

my car came with an HPI check too (had the paperwork in the docs when I picked it up) but then it was from a slightly larger dealer. I also did an HPI check. Just do it on line. It's a bit like having a survey done on your house before you buy it, there are different levels you can have done and they cost different amounts. The dealer had, perhaps not surprisingly just had the cheap one which proves there is no outstanding finance and it hasn't been nicked.

Brilliant many thanks for the replies.

Which online site is good to do hpi check?

The radio supplied according to the info from the Russian site was MB Audio 10 cc .

Should it have a CD changer? Nothing in the car checked this morning.

I'm not sure but CC may mean "compact cassette". Does it have a tape player? Mine is the Audi 10 with the single CD player. The Audio 10 does have the option of an external CD loader. I think it is either in the boot of the glove box. Does it have a CD button? If not it's probably just the cassette version.

btw, post us some pictures when you pick it up. Good luck

Here's one for you:

Ive just popped out of work to check my vin on that russian MB site(cause i was realy busy!!)

There is one in the window that matches one on the drivers side door post.
BUT!!
The one under the bonnet looks as though it's put in with self tapping screws??

This can't be normal??

Can it?

Isn't it supposed to be tack welded?

Just tried mine on the Russian site too!
From what I recall, (It's cold in the garage), the plate under the bonnet, in front of the radiator IS put on with self tappers!
My son is looking for a replacement for his Transit and got an HPI from the Ford agent, so your local MB man should oblige.

agreed just checked mine and the plate under the bonnet is screwed down. The screws and the plate are painted body colour.

Most likely is that previous owner changed them to the standard wheels and sold the optional wheels.

Mine had 18" AMG's I had them changed for standard 16" Avantgarde wheels.

Found them it was 17" ten spoke wheels!!!!

Cant believe they took them off as it is the ****** wheels I was looking at for a wee christmas pressy for the car!!
The dealer had told me not to go above 17" as the ride would be terrible!

Just had a wee look at the curvy 5 spoke but looks as if the suspension would need changed too!

The 10 spoke has 17* 7.5J at front and 8.5J at the back
Alloy Wheels Price
16" Light alloy wheel 7-spoke (S) 0 GBP
16" Alloy wheels (4) - 5-spoke 7J/8Jx16 245 GBP
17" Alloy wheels (4) - 5-spoke 7.5J/8.5Jx17 730 GBP
17" Alloy wheels (4) - 10-spoke 7.5J/8.5Jx17 (mixed tyres) 810 GBP
17" Alloy wheels (4) - 5-spoke incl Sport Susp. 950 GBP
18" AMG alloy wheels (4) - 5-spoke design 1,860 GBP

If you look on the attached site you can download a PDF version of the SLK Pricelist and the Accessories brochure http://www2.mercedes-benz.co.uk/con..._cars/slk_class_roadster_facelift/prices.html I cannot see code 666 wheels though. In the Service booklet there should be a copy of the build (there is in mine) what is listed on that sheet?
Code 639 for the 10 spoke 17" wheels, nice picture in the Pricelist on page 9

If yours had the 10 spoke 17" wheels from new (Code 639 then the sports suspension was included in the price (which is why the SLK200 wheels cost more than the 280 or 350))

It says option 666 on the vin site
666 10-hole light alloy wheels with wide tires (с 01.06.1997)

So if these were taken off and the wee 16" put on will the ride not suffer on my car as the suspension will have been stiffened and lowered but I now have the smaller wheels???

Ps option 666 I dont like the sound of that!!!
