Hi Guys n gals

I am new to this site, I am trying to help out my brother who is not on the net.

He has a Vito 108cdi 2151cc first reg. 31/5/02
The van has been no trouble since he bought it a year ago. This year he travelled 300 miles south on holiday and found after the journey it would not start on the starter but could be jump started.
He took it to a Merc dealership who put it on the diagnostics and reported that all was ok but they would investigate further. They aparently changed injectors and got him going. Two miles down the road he had to stop the van and it would not start again, ending up with it being towed back to their garage
After several hours they could not get the van going so my brother ended up going home by train. Weeks later the Merc garage said they could not find the problem. We then collected the van and towed it back home, 17 hours round trip:mad:
The van is now in another Merc garage who have informed him that they have had to refit and tighten various parts left loose:( . They then fitted a new fuel injector pump, and it will still not go, finally they have informed us that the ECU is burn't out:confused: This was confirmed ok at the first garage, I smell a rat here somewhere. Anyway the van now needs a replacment ECU type Bosch 028101092. I do not have confidence that this will cure the starting problems

Can anyone shed any light as to why this van started to have the starting problem? and has anyone got an ECU? spare

hi rj
very unlikley to be ecu. most likely to be either a leaking injector or fuel pressure regulator. it only needs 1 faulty injector & it will not get fuel pressure as it is common rail.

good luck ted

Sounds like incompetance on the part of the first garage and the second, but the second could argue the first made a mess of the vehicle. However, I suppose the first garage did get the Vito going at first.

I'm not an expert on the new ECU systems but would be glad to know is it not the ECU that provides diagnostic fault codes? If so, in theory the second garage should have picked up the faulty ECU straight away.

I would try and get some kind of refund for the parts already shelved out for.
