Has anyone had and knows the answer too, clitchy electrics that whist driving, the radio, srs, indicators and some other warning light flash very quickly. Also it locks the doors! No other electrics seem to be affected.

1st to check is water ingress to the SAM, that's located within the under bonnet fuse enclosure.

2nd, but less likely, is water onto the multi function light switch.

Thank you for that. When you say water ingress, do you mean that it will have water in it or just corroding the pcb? To me being an electronic engineer, it feels like a dry solder joint and I was wondering if it could be in the key module as they seem to have a jaded past! What do you think?

A lot of rain water runs on and around the fuse enclosure, it's integrity is critical.
Water is designed to run away, but it's dependant on rubber inserts being totally correct and clear drains.
I've seen a distorted enclosure that would allow moisture in.

The SAM controls the items mentioned. A compromised SAM will create much confusion, but so would moisture compromising the canbus elsewhere, and that could be in many places.

My way to test the SAM is to replace with a known quality unit. I have a SAM with 2 known faults I could use on pre 2010 Vi's, I haven't tried it on later mo mo's. But when it cured existing other faults and introduced the expected 2 I would source a unit from eBay.

The SAM would be my starting point.
Star can activate items and an exhaustive testing session 'may' help.

Just to let anyone interested or who has the same problems as me, I found the fault! Either side of the dash, so drivers and passengers, there is a bunch of cables that have connectors all housed in a vinyl bag. I believe these to be the can buss cables as most were twisted pair. As my vehicle is 11 years old, the spade connectors have a slight oxide on them and due to the extremely low current that the can buss uses, any bad connection will cause a problem. unplug them and plug them back in. my problem disappeared.
