Good evening,
I hope I am posting on the correct place.

Here I go.
I am planning changing the lower in on steering column, and would like some advice on how to go about it,
Would I have to release steering wheel or steering rack etc,?
The garage cannot do it in time for the 10 day retest thanks in advance

Forum members may be able to recommend some garages. Which part of the country are you in.

I looked up a parts catalogue for w639 Vito and looked like MBenz dont sell a UJ on its own. May be they sell the whole steering shaft. That got me thinking.
By the way, in my research, seen a utube of removing the steering shaft on a Sprinter. Very detailed it is. The airbag scares me. The steering wheel has to come off, then all the brackets securing the shaft before pulling the shaft up.

Hi all,I have put another post on here,
But cannot find it,so here we go.
I had a go changing lower steering column, but top splines was the other way round,so put the old back, receiving correct one today
Anyway took the Vito for a spin
The traction control light now comes on
The column middle joint was free while trying to reconnect,
Could I have upset a steering sensor?
Any tips appreciated
Thanks for any help

Ok here's the latest on my project vito 639 111cdi
It has gone now for unexpected welding job

Like I have mentioned here before.had some issues with it
Yesterday the new lower steering column was fitted by myself
During the problem last week trying to fit the incorrect shaft ,I have affected the traction control light somehow, now comes on after moving a little and stays on
Does anyone know if this can without a scanner type tool,
Regards .andy

I thought you were having a problem with a speed sensor.
Were you able to change it..?

Hi,oh yes that was finally sorted with Mercedes abs sensor
It's a long project now,but nearly there
Took it for a spin today, wants a goob belt up the road soon.

But just the traction control light now, welding
Was quoted £500 ish but will be around £150

Light is on because of bottom column replaced, steering moved while doing it

Right, the van is going to get some welding done.
Normally, the van battery is disconnected before doing the welding.
I reckon the traction control light will sort itself out after that, especially as the steering wheel was held in position when you were working on it.
