I wonder if anyone else has experienced this? Van drives perfectly fine urban no misses splutters etc and excelerates as you would expect, however on motorways cruising at 70 and you hit a hill and your speed starts to drop so you give it more throttle it at times jolts like the revs are dying just for a split seconds then it will pick up again? No EML coming on, it may also be a bit lame when it does this as in it should eat hills empty, I don't drop a gear tho I sit in 6th, seems hard to get to 70 again!

Not done anything as yet, was thinking first port of call would be fuel filter, anyone another ideas?

Thanks in advance Ronnie

What your describing could be fuel starvation Ronnie, recommend changing fuel filter if it hasn't been done in a long time as its a cheap fix also check air filter in case its blocked. get a diagnostic readout if that doesn't fix it as there could be codes in there without EML being on. These engines have issues with the swirl valves, EGR and DPFs and sometimes turbo issues too which dont always activate the EML

Thanks Kev, had it almost 2 years but only covered about 5k! oil filter changed twice so the rest will need doing, it's an ex police van so assumed well mantained but have my doubts!

Cheers Ronnie

Mine doesn't do a lot of miles either with work being close, only 10k since I got the van in 2018 and a lot of heartbreak:(. It could be well maintained being a police vehicle. I suspect some other issues that will only show up on diagnostics but better to rule out the cheap stuff first like fuel and air filter Ronnie

Cheers Kev, I bought an icarsoft reader but never hooked it up yet! the EML was coming on some time ago but my garage managed to put it out, one of the codes was swirl flap, I best check them again.

Icarsoft is a good code puller for a Vito. If its a i980 it can access nearly all modules from memory which is good for live data to see what circuits are faulty. I will be away for a few days on a break Ronnie in case you have more questions and dont get any replies from me. Lots of others on here more knowledgeable than me.:D If you do suspect a component is faulty we can compare live data to confirm it when I get back.
PS: I get two swirl flap codes regular but it doesn't affect the driving of my van just for reference.

Just ordered a fuel and air filter, what's the best way to fit the fuel filter does it need primed etc? Have read a few views, some say yes other no!

Stick it in and turn on ignition for approx 30 secs; it will self-prime.

Word of caution, you might have those funny spring-clip things that are very awkward to undo/redo, on the pipes, without the right tool. Have a look before tackling the job.

Cheers that helps, had the garage replace the housing last year due to a water leak so maybe he replaced the clips but I will check!

Seen fuel filters from £10 right up to £60! I went for the £10 Blue Print one!

Cheers Ronnie
