Greetings all. Slight problem my Vito 639cdi 2009. Had a p0069 fault. Barometric pressure sensor so I replaced maf map and boost sensor. Problem still remains. Goes into limp mode when engine drops to idle speed. Had it tested on a star. And it showed 800mb at the ecu. But that was as much as the mechanic told me any help would be great. Plus egr has been deleted but still shows open 4.2% in live data

How does the problem affect to the way it drives? What "symptoms" it has?

I mean, before it goes into limp mode, does it accelerate as fast as before or do you feel like it doesn't have all the power?

Power is fine as long as the revs don’t drop to idle. Flicking the ignition on and off cures it until the revs drop again. Cheers for the reply

Hi Andy the Druid,
I have exactly the same problem after doing the resistor fix to the swirl motor.
My 120CDI 3.0 was off the road for 12 months and once I started it up again it was in permanent limp mode. The resistor fix sorted that out as it was the swirl flap motor.
But now I have the same problem as you, let the revs drop to idle for too long and it goes into a less severe limp mode where it will change gears still.
Read the codes and it is the same one you have.
Did you get anywhere with yours?

On mine it seems to be ok if as soon as I start the engine I rev the engine in Park
I'll do some experiments, but it seems to only be when I start the engine and let it idle for a bit and pull away slowly without revving

I'm thinking of doing this:
just worried about hydro locking the engine
It might clean up the swirl flaps stuff and allow me to reconnect the swirl motor

Because the ecu only actuate the egr at idle or constant low load situations, after 30 seconds or so. By revising it straight away, it never tries to open the egr.

Water injection does work well, but on a diesel needs a good load really. I do it in our old 4 pot generators lots (and my S65 has it for charge cooling)

I've not replaced my sensors as don't want to spend money unnecessarily.
I'm thinking my P0069 code is related to the swirl flap motor resistor fix I did. So thinking that engine clean might clean up the intake manifold/swirl flaps, so I can reconnect the swirl motor and see if the P0069 code disappears as well.
It's a good idea to get the engine cleaned at my mileage anyway.
My engine will go into the limp mode when waiting at traffic lights etc, so I put it in neutral and give it some revs, sometimes works sometimes doesnt

Update on mine... limp mode became permanent... took it to a commercial vehicle garage and they called today to say it's the wiring from the ECU down to the boost pressure sensor gone bad. Caused the egr to always be closed so that's jammed up and caused a flexi hose to split and ruin the cat.
They will fix this week but say they have it running now with no codes and full power
