Hi.

I got a message on the display the other day. Oil level too high. Next thing was plumes of smoke from back and running at high revs. When I turned the key off it carried on running unit it eventually died on its own. On the oil I believe.

Anyway, got the van recovered. Have changed the turbo, no 2 injector tip burn out so replaced the injectors too. Now it wont start. Turns over no problem but not firing. I have reprogrammed the injectors just as a matter of course.

I bought the van as I thought that it would be reliable due to it being a Merc, how wrong I was. Been a complete money pit in the last few months and only 120k.

Any good news ?? ie things to try or is it just likely to be shot.

Hi.

Just wondering what doesn't tie up. Maybe I could explain further if I knew what you meant. Sounds like lack of compression possibly. Going to carry out a compression check when I get round to it.

exactly that

after a runaway turbo event the first test is compression before fitting new parts.

Spoke to an engine guy. He said try it first. If I strip the engine I need the parts anyway. When I put the replacement parts on, it did try to start first.......Then nothing.

Don't understand the reply of WHAT ?

Surely a forum is for replies of more than one syllable and open ended discussion with constructive questions and answers.

A runaway does not mean its knackered , i would be looking at the injector you changed as this will stop it running and if its a dud will cause low fuel pressure at the rail , will it run off a squirt of easy start?.

Thank Alex. Nice to have an actual reply that means something. Exactly what I was told off the engine guy, hence trying the parts. Ive actually replaced 3 injectors and programmed them in as I have Delphi diagnostic equipment. There were lodas of fault codes recorded, cleared these and havent come back again. Mainly over revving faults. Unfortunately due to my work commitments, I'm trying to look at it between jobs. I intend to try to get there sometime tomorrow if I can, if not, then Monday. Will update better when I've looked further.

Thanks again Alex
Regards
Stuart

You should be able to hear if it has no compression as the engine will spin easily and evenly without the characteristic rrr rrr rrr sound.
Are you getting fuel to the injectors?

As kiwi says low compression and they usually spin over quickly, let us know how you get on , runaway diesel is a scary beast!.

Yes definitely fuel to injectors. I think lack of compression. If that's the case, hopefully valve problem and not pistons.
