W model numbers

any chance someone could tell me about the w model codes for mercedes, if there is a sticky or thread for this could you point me to it

Here’s a few –best as I can with approx dates: -

A class: - Current model - W169 1997 to 2004
Old model – W168 2005 to present

B class: - Current model W245 since 2005

C class: - Current model - W204 (S204 for estate) 2009 onwards
Old model – W203 2001 to 2006
Very Old model W202 1995 to 2000
Prior to that (help?) there was the W201 from early eighties till 1993 or so and called 190 class.

CL Class: - S class based 2 door coupe
Current model W216 from 2008
Old model W215 from 2000-2008

CLK Class
2003 to 2009 was the W209
1998 to 2002 was the W208

New model is really the “E class coupe” as MB call it although it is based on the C class platform. They call it the C207

CLS Class: -
Current model 2006 to the present is the W219.

E Class: -
Current model W212 for saloons and S212 for the estate since 2009
Old model is the W211 (and S211) 2003 to 2009
Very old model is the W210 (and S210) 1995 to 2002
Even older and much revered is the 124 series from around 1986 to 1995

S Class: -
Current model is the W221 series from 2006
Old model is the W220 from 2000 to 2006
Very old model is the W140 from 1991 to 1999

They're the wrong way round.
W168 was 1997 till 2004 followed by W169 up until the current shape
