Hello again you lot.

I'm after a clean W107 SLC, 380 or 450, must have leather. If you know of one in or around the Glos area, please let me know.

Anyone have any info on the areas to take a close look at bodywise? I'm hearing rear wheelarches, panel behind and around the rear screen. Any other areas that need to be tested with magnet, mallet and screwdriver?

TIA.

Many thanks for that.

It seems low miles SLC's can be had, but they are rare. Even harder to find with leather, but on the upside, they are nowhere as pricey as the SL's. SWMBO actually prefers the SLC to the SL, so that is great news! There are some dogs on eBay and hardly any nationwide on the trader site. The search continues...

It seems that lack of soft top meant SLC's have commanded a lower price than SL's through their life and as a result many have been neglected. Therefore it's hard to find good ones.

You are right there. I went to see this one:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=013&item=230024258156 which I knew was "well worn", but what I saw was a car that needed:

New rear quarters, both arches gone.
Rear valance, rusted in corners behind bumper.
Front valance, mostly missing!
Front wings, rust round lights, arches and lowers.
Sills, rust at leading edge by wheel arch had been glass fibred.
Drivers side footwell, a huge hole you could put your hand in!
All rubbers around glass needed replacing. I'm serious, there were plants growing round the windscreen and mushy moss in all other windows.

Repaint of n/s door, probably the whole car. Now, I know eBay is the worst place to find a classic, but this one was local and I thought I had nothing to lose by viewing it as it was only 10 mins drive from me. I was shocked thjough. Even if I got the car for £500, it would need a pretty major amount of work to make it right, I'm reckoning on £5k just in parts and paint. What a shame.

I wonder if the only source of these parts would be stealers? Or would GSF supply the bits I wonder? Just off to look on the web....

They are out there...

You need to look and look and look for a decent one.

As you have seen, rust is your enemy, other than that, they did not call them Panzerwagens for nothing.

Would not bother with a 380 there will be sod all difference in the fuel cons - the 450's are an absolute pleasure to drive.

Was devastated when I destroyed the box on mine.

The dealer has been rubbish when I've had to ask for bits for my 116 (shares a lot of parts with the 107 SL + SLC) eithing not recognising the vin or not knowing what to look for on the parts diagrams.

GSF stock all the usual service parts, and I've had no probs getting bits from them so far.
