W111 Rear Suspension

I've recently noticed the rear of my 1965 230s is riding very low.

What is the likely cause of this? And what would be the recommended repair method?

Thanks
Will

IIRC The self levelling strut [Nivomat?] was standard on the 230S, in place of the compensating spring of the lesser models.

Whichever is now fitted to your car, if your ride height problem is even across the rear of the car, I would check that first.

If your problem is that the car is low on just the one side, then the rear road spring on the low side is more likely the issue.

Thanks for the info.

Both sides of the vehicle are low. I heard a 'pop' while I was driving it which I didn't think was related (until now). Does this indicate a hose may have split?

Only asking as I cannot see a 111 listed with a 230 engine

Is the VIN a 111

Sorry for the slow response.

It's part 111, [coincidence], HYD.PNEUM.SPRING LEG ASSY in the Russian site. No hoses, just a self-contained unit.

You may be lucky and be able to replace it [more cheaply] with the ordinary compensating spring, as used on most 190/200/220 and ordinary 230's.
