Hi there, my 1973 280 ce starts and idles poorley when cold but is fine once it has warmed up. I haven't had a chance to get a decent workshop manual for my car but i would imagine being fuel injection it has a cold start valve or coolant temp sender going to the ECU. Anyone had this problem or can help? It also idles quite fast when in park once it has warmed up, thanks in advance!

Do a search on D-Jet on the Internet and you will find lots of useful information about it. Also, Amazon have some good books - I think there is one by Bentley Publishing.

Wow a 114 280CE

And Dan, don't give up!!!

We had a 1993 280CE with the reg. SLO104L ("slow one awful"). It was great.

Loads of stories about that car - family of 6 to south of France and Dordogne for holidays - seat belts, pah!

Booked for speeding on the A3 - they said 106 - lucky they weren't there on the 3 lane bit!

Mercedes in Worthing (I think) fitted HD springs (they called them "Nigerian") and dampers - brilliant.

My wife still thinks the 1991 300CE-24 Sportline is poo in comparison with SLO104L. No room in it and stalls for no reason. There's no way the 300 could have taken 2 adults and children of 10, 8, 6 and 18 months on those hols.

Eventually replaced it with a 123 series 280TE when child 5 arrived but that's another story.

Keep us posted.

Er, 1973 I think?

Yes, it replaced my rusting 1971 250CE.

Always been a bit of a coupe wallah, especially the pillarless ones.

The 1973 280CE had a vast metal sunroof, far less claustrophobic than the later ones. Doubtless due to health and safety regs.

Oh well, c'est la vie!

Your cold relay is probably knackered, mine was and I had the same symptons.
