i am viewing a w114 280 (1972) this week... what should i look for in terms of body / paintwork / engine etc. any danger signs i should be aware of?
it is quite low mileage (60k) what would a good fair price be in the region of (it is through a classic car trader...) many thanks geoff

1000 - 6000 depending on condition.

rust rust and more rust.

see pic for rough guide. plus lift carpets esp in footwell fronts near where the handbrake cable goes into the floor and under the spare wheel (remove the wheel)

the blob on the C pillar is esp prone if it has a sunroof.

good luck... take a magnet to check it is STEEL not isopon

Have to agree with Guy, RUST. This has put an end to a couple that I owned, pay particular attention to rear arches (inside the boot)as any cracks here can be a sign of structural corrosion underneath leading to (in bad cases) the whole boot area drooping.All those green blobs I have had to repair. Other than that they are one of the best Mercs I have owned with bullet proof engineering. Buy a good one, not worth the effort of repairing a rusty one.
