There is a nut on the end of the box,,but it should be adjusted with care,,checking that there is no binding on full lock 25mm at the wheel with the wheels straight ahead and engine running

I may have a paper on doing this

box? and should i tighten this nut?

this may not make much sense but i remember watching a program on SKY called rags to richs. a man buys a car in auction, fixes the minor problems and sells it on again and makes money doing so. and on one of the programs was the W123 with this problem. but i didn't take note because i didn't have mine at the time. i remember roughly what he did but i'm no 100%.

you have been very helpful so far and would very much appreciate any help or advice you could give me.

If the steering box is the original, just get it replaced with a recon one or new one.

The adjuster nut will not compensate for a worn out steering box and these w123 steering boxes are usually fairly worn out by now if you are still on the original.

Where can us 123 owners get a new or recon box from?
Mines wanders its way down the road at the moment with me constantly correcting it!

I found that replacing the steering damper made a big improvement in stability. Available from ECP etc, and a 10 minute job to change. Adjusting the steering box will iumprove but not fix the problem with slack steering. Note that you turn the allen bolt anti-clockwise to tighten - it's the other way round to what you'd expect.

You can try Power steering services in Greenwich.

Thats where I got mine replaced several years ago. (When I owned a W123 Coupe)
