I have just bought a 1983 280E which has done 117000 miles.
It has a full MBSH and the car drives great, doesn't burn oil and has plenty of power.
However, I was wondering about the engine as it is noisy at tick over.
To me it sounds just like tappets and I was wondering if this was something I need to be worried about?
Are the tappets on these engines hydraulic and is it something I can fix?
Cheers,
Mike

I've owned 4 cars with the m110 engine and every one required adjustment. I would recommend buying the special tool as you can't easily access the adjuster with a normal spanner. You may find the cam lobes are worn, which was the case with one of my cars.
