w123 engine change insurance

Hey

Can any one recomend an isurance company for a w123 that was a 280te but has 300td engine in every one wants to rip me off or wont insure it. also im a young driver and ony 1y ncb, could insure it for 550 with out engine change but cheepest i got with engine change was near 1000. doesnt make much sence to me cosidering its nearly half the horse power

Hi mate,
Try the specialist classic insurers, you will have to have it on limited mileage though.

It is pretty pants, but as soon as you mention 'engine change' they think you are on about some super powerful monster and hike your premium up accordingly. The fact that it is an old diesel lump is irrelevant.

Alternatively, you could try and get the car reregistered as a 300TD. There are spaces on the V5 for changes to engine size and new engine number etc. Therefore you eill be insuring a 300TD, not a modified 280TE. I know of someone who successfully did this when he put a new engine in his peice of British built crap with a blue oval on the front. The DVLA where quite helpfull!

£125 and I'm only 27! Lancaster insurance. It's probably to late, hope this helps
