Im looking at mounting a stereo in my W123, but I want to relocate it higher, to the button panel above the aircon controls.

I can relocate the buttons, and the panel is wide and high enough to accomodate a 1-Din unit, but it's not deep enough. Before I try and dismantle the entire geartunnel cover, can anyone tell me if it's possible to chop into the solid plastic between the dash and the bulkhead? Has anyone tried this before?

I have had a look at your center console if you are going to put it in the top hole it will be pointing more down than back. the console buts up to the instrument panel and I can see nothing behind it.with luck you could fit the mounting brackets to this

Please do not quote me if it all goes wrong.

Thanks for checking that out for me, much appreciated. I did note the angle of the panel - FYI its actually a touchscreen going in there, for a GPS system. Its the depth thats the problem - a 1-Din unit is about 8" deep, and the distance from the panel to the plastic bulkhead cover is only 5 or 6", leaving the unit protuding.
The unit falls foul at the back by hitting the large plastic tunnel the AC Controls bolt on to - my question is - whats behind that tunnel? Can I safely chop into it?

i dont know the 123 that well - but i bet thats the heater box - and inside that will be the heater matrix (radiator). you might be lucky, if you are very very careful, ther might be enough space. but then you would need to re-seal the box to get any hot air blowing out - and i bet you need your heater in warsaw...
