Ive lost the only key I had to my 1982 W123 300D.I was out walking in the hills and when I got back to my car realised the key was missing.I had to get a breakdown company to break into the car and recover it to my house. Its now stuck here immobile. My problem is I dont have a code number to get a replacement cut.The local MB dealers says they cant do anything without this number and have not been very helpful.MB USA have on the other hand been really helpful and sent me the data card information but unfortunately this didnt contain the key/ number. I queried this and they then sent me this number U7183.A couple of key cutting companies have rejected my order using this number which suggests that its not correct. Its just a basic flat key,no chip.Im based in the UK my vin is WDB 12313020290657 Production no;2205431 Auftrage no;253787673. Im completely stuck ! Thanks all.

Tukka Sorry to hear about the loss of your keys . This will be a huge job to replace the door locks and ignition lock on your car . You can search for ever and a day for the replacement keys .I would bite the bullet and replace them all .A second hand set on Ebay go for £200 ish then you will have to changing them all over . Have you thought about talking the police in the area you last the old keys ..Or even go and look for them out there ?.

Hi,I was up near Buxton and I am going to go back maybe tomorrow but the chabce of finding anything in grass and thistles is pretty remote.I did phone Derbys police but they said they dont take lost property in anymore and cant help! One option is to remove the door lock barrel and get a replacement made from that hoping that the ignition one is exactly the same.To remove the ignition barrel properly you need a key! If only Mercedes could give me a key code things would be so much easier,Derby MB dealer said they would have to 'apply' to MB Germany for the code which could take two weeks! They say the delay is because my car is too old to be in the database (1982) and it will be in the archives, still cant see why it would take two weeks.Im really at their mercy for now.

Well Tukka I would do thatget the ball rolling with the dealers in Germany .. .Wait a few weeks till the information comes back from Germany ..Other thing is find other W123 owners and ask to come and try their keys on your locks for a few beers,, who knows it might work if you can find just one key to fit and open the door because they are all the same as a rule .

Ok I now have the code from Mercedes! Next problem is the code begins with a U71--.Ive tried a couple of independant key cutters and they cant find a Mercedes code that begins in U,they are usually HU or Hs or similar. Is there a cross reference to this number?

Put up a notice near where you was walking with your mobile number on. Just maybe someone might find the keys.

Bummer of a situation. Hope you get it all sorted soon.
