H E L P !!

I just changed the half shafts on my W123 300 TD and in the process managed to drop the diff too quickly which caught the pipe that goes into the accumalator banjo. Fluid leaked out but stopped when I nipped up the bolt that goes into the accumalator.

Both accumalators are new and the ride was excellent but now it is back to having no damping effect at all. to boot the clamp that holds the lever onto the levelling "thing" does not grip and so the ride height is way up.

I manually moved it today and it started squeeling and when I started driving it was like when a compressor kicks in. I traced back the noise to the Levelling "thing". There is plenty of fluid in the system and the system purged itself of air when I did the accumalators.

Any ideas please!!!

Sounds like there is some air in there.
On the 124 a bleed nipple lives on the level control valve, try opening this slowly with the engine not running, attach a tube to catch the fluid. The system will be under pressure take care.
Sort out the levelling control valves arm fixing.
Make sure the fluid level is at max before you start it up.

I'm sure others will chip in with more detail.

I do have the papers on the operation of the valve on the axle and how to check things that I could send

Good stuff, when I changed the Accumalators I never bled anything. Will have a look tomorrow for this bleed nipple.

Will be happy for any documents that de-mistify the system :)

The system should self bleed if the height control valve is actuated as if to raise the car.
you said the ride height is now too high, this will give a solid ride if the dampers have run out of travel.

Never had a chance to play with this but had to use it for a tip run and the suspension is now back to normal. I guess manually adjusting the ride height must have done the trick.

Cheers for the help, just need two bits of information now

  • Where can I get a bush for the F/N/S tie bar
  • Does anyone do half shafts for these now days

Will put this in a seperate post as well.

Cheers guys
