Rather than fixing the fact that the car doesn't run today, I thought I would have a go at mending the typically collapsed squabs on the driver's, passenger's and rear seats.

I did some research on various methods that other people appear to have done to fix this problem, and decided that this was the best method:

I just used long pieces of quite thick cardboard laid horizontally across the springs to spread the weight out. The cardboard worked better than using other materials that I tried (wood, sponge, metal sheets.) I weigh 14 stone and it has worked a treat. So even though the car won't go anywhere, it is rather comfortable to sit in now.

Hope this helps somebody; I seem to be in rather a lot of debt to other members as I ask lots of questions without answering any.
