Hello Merc lovers,

I hope someone can help....??

I have recently acquired a 1985(C) 280CE Coupe (W123)which I am tidying up at the moment. Its booked for a respay in late Dec. Unfortunately the alternator has gone and i am having big problems raplacing it.

The main issue is the engine number.....110.988. I have trauled through loads of websites looking on
Merc engine code & Chassis listings, but its not listed!! Its going to be a problem finding parts in the future if its not even listed!

Does anyone know if any other model alternator fits on this engine or is it a specific?

Hope sum1 can help

 ?

All the best

Any other sugesstions would be appreciated

You can get reconditioned units either from your local Motor Factors shop or you can have your original rebuilt. Rebuilding is often the cheeper option. If Mercedes can't help you then perhaps a Bosch stockist can as I'm sure that the unit fitted to that car will be a Bosch or your local Motor Factors can assist.

? But the M110.988 engine was standard in the W123 chassis 280 models between 1981 and 1985 for the coupe, saloon and estate. I don't understand why you can't find it listed anywhere. Try a search on M110.988 on the web and it brings up plenty of sites.

try www.eurocarparts.com and you will probably find the alernator you want as you will have to enter your car, model, year etc and possibly engine no as well.

good luck!

you are right-the eurocarparts do not have the alternator price and you would need to ring them

you could try www.gsfcarparts.com. Definitely on the website under starting/charging-part no M90335-for 110.988 -£74.50 plus vat.

hope that helps.
