Hello,

I’m based in southern England and have just brought my first W124.

Aircon is non existent, so I took it into a well known chain of garages to get it pressure tested.

However, they could not find both the air con ports…

One is on the LH wing, see pic.

There is another on the back of the compressor, but apparently it is the wrong size(?) and is unusual to be located in this place(?).

I’d be very grateful if someone could guide me to the correct ports.

Thanks

Thanks, that’s the problem it appears there are many locations depending on model. Several YouTube videos have the LP port behind the ABS unit. Mine does not have one there.

Some diagrams suggest one near the front radiator. Again, mine does not have this.

Is the port at the back of the compressor (second pic) one of the charging ports?

Could it be a port for use with the old R12 refrigerant?

Good idea but the sticker says 134a thankfully.

Guess there must be ‘old style’ air con ports; the machine at the garage will only connect to chunky red and blue ones it seems.

Seems I need a specialist shop or an old fashioned place

Turns out a regular garage can do it. You just need a decent one.

The first I picked must have been having an off day, or didn’t fancy reaching down (or raising the car) to get to the port behind the compressor.

It took a lot more gas than a ‘normal car’ (as they called it) but at least the air con is now ice cold and the windows don’t fog.
