w124 230 te estate engine noise

Hi,

Just found this site and was wondering if anyone had any ideas. Some days on start up the engine sounds tappety? then it goes away but comes back when it likes. Hot or cold fast or slow it just comes and goes. Some days no noise at all. Tappets or chain tensioner or something else?

Any help would be great.

Hello,
I would say it sounds like a lazy tappet!!! There is some treatments available but i'm not to sure if they work!!! A bmw tech i know has used it with sucess on bmw's. So may be worth a try!!!
