Rather surprisingly, the Haynes manual just says "Merceds Benz Lenkgetriebeol (0009898803)" *

Having said that, I've been using the normal over the counter stuff for ages with no ill effects.

I bought 000 989 88 03, from the local dealership.
funny though,
it smells just like ATF (Dextron II) as would be expected in most cars, but it is a kind of yellow colour.
It says "Transmission oil" on the bottle!!.
£4.67+VAT for 500ml
As I mentioned, it's a different colour, so if it isn't leaking and using much, for a top-up maybe stick to the MB gear, on a drain down and refill I'd go with Dextron II

Dextron II or Dextron III is the same and will work the same.
