Hi all,

Not sure if anyone can advise but, the electric arial of my 1994 W124 saloon has broken off. Does anyone know if there is any standard aftermarket arial that i can replace it with as I'm not too interested in shelling out a lot of dosh on an electrical arial. Thanks

Seanie

it may be an aftermarket ariel already, back then most MB's didnt have any ICE fitted at the factory, it may be fitted with a bosch, hirshman or some other make.
you should be able to gat a mast, that will be around £25 - £40

Thats' correct, you can simply replace just the mast.

Although the W124's did come with Hirschmann electric antenna's fitted as standard from the factory, usually with a Becker Mexico main system.

The mast alone is usually available from MB, and as mentioned above, approx £25. About 30 - 45mins work to fit it on to the existing aerial motor housing.

Only by special order

beg to differ talbir, W124's did NOT come with Hirschmann electric antenna's fitted as standard from the factory, as i stated MOST MB's left the factory with NO ICE fitted
it was an option until around 1994 to have any ICE fitted ex factory, 202 C class normally had arials fitted, but the early ones didnt have speakers!
that was the thing with the older Merc's the basic spec was just that - very basic - and most cars were specced up a fair bit but ICE was the one thing that was left until PDI.
if i had a quid for every Merc id seen with a cheap electic arial fitted on PDI i may have a better car than i have now!

Yes, correct, most of the early MB's didn't have the main head unit. A 94 W124 would have the automatic antenna fitted (option code 532) and most likely have a head unit.

Below is a link to MB CLub Russia, which is superb. Input your VIN and it will tell you every original detail of the car - what colour it first was, where it was sold and exactly what it left the factory with - great service.

Great link that! Of course it just confirms what I knew of the cars history but peace of mind is important at my age! ;-)

glad to see that even on my 14 year old MB everything is still original . .
