W124 E220
Hi, im new to the forum and mercedes so please be gentle :)

I have a W124 E220 a 1996 model.
The problem I have is that its a real pain to start. once started it idles very roughly until warm and then its fine. when cold it drives fine but will stall at junctions. again once warm it drives fine and does not stall.

I have had a good search around the forum and think its one of two things
1) Idle control valve
2) Cold start valve.

My question is how do I test these? Also can somebody point out where I can find them in the bay? I have an idea but im not sure and I don't have a workshop manual for it.

Thanks!

IIRC there is no cold start valve on an E220 - it's all ECU-controlled. I'd clean the throttle valve with some carb cleaner as a first step. Problems with E220s all seem to revolve around the throttle body

None at the monent, but there's an OM642 in the Jeep Grand Cherokee!
Possibly the throttle body, but also check:

Air leaks on induction side

Ignition coils, leads, spark plugs and the rubber 'boots' between two of the plugs and their coil

Coolant temperature sensor

Bio-degradeable wiring loom?
