Hi all,

I'm considering taking the door off my donor car and putting it on the cannibal.

I would have to swap the door cards and the lock barrels I guess.

In addition, both cars are alarmed, so I may have to break/make some connections in that department.

I'm going to go take a look, but is this a reasonably straightforward job for a beginner, and can anyone guide me through this please?

Many thanks

Could I please have door card removal and how to disconnect all the wires and tubes once I get the card off? Especially as I don't know where the alarm wire might be attached, so any info on that would be appreciated.

As for the door lock barrel, I think it's just the Allen bolt at the door edge? If not, then please may I have a guide on that too?

Other than that, I know how to undo the check strap at the pillar end, the hinges look pretty straightforward, and I've had a little pull at the gaiter covering the wires/tubes.

If there are any other traps for the novice, would really appreciate a heads-up.

Many thanks Malcolm.

Ok,

Thanks to one of several posts on this forum, I managed to remove the door card without difficulty (I relied on Wireman's post, for which many thanks).

I've identified 6 separate wire/tube connections that I think need to be disconnected in order to take the door off. Pics attached.

Am I right in thinking it is simply a case of disconnecting these, then finding the same wires/tubes on the other car to connect up to the door? Presumably, this won't affect the window or the window regulator?

Are there any precautions I should be taking before I disconnect? (I've removd the battery already).

I'm puzzled by connection 6. Once I unplug the black part from the beige, the black head seems too big to pull out of the door. What should I do?

Thanks for any advice

I have sent you all there is on this, sorry that you did not get the door card details.

On most of the cars it is best to pull the cables back in to kick panel

Hi Malcolm,

Did you email it? If so, I'm afraid I didn't receive anything from you at all, and knowing how busy you are on this forum, I assumed it would take a while and just waited for you. So while waiting, curiousity got the better of me, I started undoing a few things, got to a point of no return and had to search online to finish, and that's where I've got to. :)

Where or what is the kickplate please?

Many thanks

the kick panel is the one to the right of your drivers feet, and MB do say that it is best to pull all of the wires back into the space while the door is being removed and re fitted

this is sound advice. ive seen people nip wires etc without realising when the door swings about in their hands etc till they get bolts etc lined up/ threaded on. then things dont work as they should and they dont realise the wire they trapped has broken, cos they didnt realise theyd trapped a wire!

Very true Pete,,, the other thing is to find a box the same height as the bottom of the door if you are working alone, that takes all of the lifting stress away
