Hi All,

The centre section in my exhaust has a small hole in it, near the join with the rear section. Slightly annoying as the rest of the section is fine. However, unfortunately it doesn't look easily repairable, so I'll have to replace it.

Aside from OEM can anyone recommend a decent quality replacement? They seem hard to come by for the Coupe.

Cheers,

Nik

Thanks Spanners, that looks like the one.

Actually, looking at the exhaust last night it actually appears that it's the front section that's gone, and not the middle - does anyone know if the front section is common on all W124 models, or whether it's specific to the Coupe?

cheers,

Nik

What year is your W124? Are you sure its not the shielding of the CAT thats corroded?

This is very common and may not be the sourse of your leak.

Mine's an '89, so pre-cat I think.

It's definitely leaking - there's a hole where the weld used to be just before the join with the mid section. In fact the whole section is quite badly rusted, so it won't hurt to replace it.

Fortunately the rest looks ok, although I'm tempted to paint it with something to help protect it (if such a thing exists). It's a downside of leaving by the sea...

cheers,

Nik

124 EXHAUST

HI NIK,
AS I'VE OWNED MY 200/124 FOR THE LAST 10YRS I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY EXHAUST A FEW TIMES. MY EXPERIENCE IS AS FOLLOWS!!
(1) EURO PARTS OK BUT NOT AS GOOD AS GERMAN SWEDISH & FRENCH "CAR PARTS "
(2) ALWAYS BUY GEMUINE MERC PART FOR FRONT DOWN PIPE, ITS LONGER LASTING & FITS FIRST TIME, ALTERNATIVE MAKES ARE A PIG TO FIT & ONLY LAST ABOUT 18 MONTHS.
MY EXISTING EXHAUST WAS SUPPLIED BY GSF CARPARTS & HAS BEEN ON FOR THE LAST FOUR YRS
CONTACT GSFCARPARTS AT www.gfscarparts.com
Regards
BARNIE

Many thanks for your reply Barnie, that's good to know. I have to say, judging by the look of the rest of the system (proper Benz) it looks like good quality - I did wonder if a non-geniune would rot out sooner.

I wonder how much they'll rob me for one of those, plus fitting....

cheers,

Nik

Did you fix it? how much did it cost? Where did you get the parts from in the end?
