W124 Door Mirrors - why different sizes?

Of all the many cars I've owned, my W124 is the only one ever to have different-sized door mirrors between driver and passenger sides.

I've come across various flat/curved combinations before, but never completely different sizes!

Are the shape combinations reversed between RHD/LHD countries - and do any other M-B models have this 'feature'?

the passenger mirror is "higher" but thinner to provide a better view for the driver. it is reversed on LHD models - passenger always has a thinner mirror.

on 124s aswell as (some?) 201 models

I have two 124s 1990, went to take the wing mirrows of one and put them on the car that is not that good, to put new on the other, found the back fitting on the mirrows different.
