Hi everyone,
I have the following intermittent problem, possibly link to a cold start issue.
On ignition. I don't always get the automatic idle surge up from ca. 800 to about 1100, to warm the engine. Later W124s do not have specific cold start valves, so start injection is an EMS controlled thing.
Sometimes, maybe one drive in ten, I have the rather alarming problem of the ignition switching off during the 5-10 minutes after start, bringing the car to an abrupt stop with loss of power-steering etc. Once stopped, I can shift to P and restart. It tends not to recur on the same trip, but occasionally it may happen twice. Obviously, potentially unsafe. At least it has only happened locally at low speed (less than 20 mph) in built-up areas.
Does anyone know the likely cause of this issue and the fix?
Cheers,
Jens
