The power to the electric windows front and rear (and the sunroof) is always on even though the key is not switched to accessory or ignition (or even in the ignition). Other accessories (e.g., indicators) which need the ignition on to work are off; I am not sure what else would be on the accessory circuit.

The car - '95 E300D estate - is new to me.

The only thing I've done to the electrics (in fact the only thing at all) is to replace the radio and the aerial mast. I am not sure if the problem was present before the change and though I have assumed not, it might have been because the wiring to the old radio was bodged up - no ISO connector, wires taped together, that sort of thing. (And that bodgery made tracking the colours and connection for the new one with a new ISO connector more difficult than I would have liked....)

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Just read some old threads, and it appears (for the windows at least) this is intended to happen when the doors are open. Correct?

Will try out later.

yup, this is normal- the windows and sunroof can be operated if one of the front doors is open. Just incase you didn't know, you also can close any windows/sunroof together by holding the key all the way to the locked position for a few seconds after you've locked it.
