I've seen a couple of W124s described recently as "Elegance" and have seen one with an Elegance badge. Before I dismiss this as owner-induced badge fetishism, does anyone know whether late W124s came from the factory in an Elegance version? Or was this W210-on, only?

And, is it me, or does every old banger on eBay seem to have been tweaked by AMG, Brabus, Mosselman or all three? You can't move for cars that have been "built by AMG" but only seem to have badges and a bodykit

Like they say of old Ferraris, Astons & the like, of the 300 built only 350 remain...

We don't need no stinkin' badges!

I'm pretty sure the elegance/classic etc badges weren't introduced on the E-class untill the 210 came in (95?), I think the C-class had the different trim level designations from it's introduction though. I've never seen a 124 with these badges.

Personally I think they look a bit tacky on a Merc.

I owned a 124 for 12 years and to my knowledge the only specification used to designate models was engine size. The only exception was the sportsline option which offered a slightly lower and stiffer ride.

The Classic, Elegance and Avantgarde trim levels came in with the W210 in 1995.

I think its fair to say that several tuning houses tweaked both 124 and 210 chassis. Its very easy to say that a car fitted with a body kit which was possibly dealer supplied is the genuine item, which may or may not be the case. Buyer beware in these situations
