W124 exhaust manifold

On a recent inspection , I noticed that the exhaust manifold on my N reg E220 mercedes- W124 series has a hairline crack apperaing between the 2 nd and third exhaust outlets. Although not blowing at present , I am concerned that it will get worse if not tended. Can anyone tell me if this is normal and what fix could be recommended ?

Hi Bert

This is not uncommon.

To be honest there is not a lot to be done unless you can find a chum who has the facilities to do cast iron welding - bit I suspect you may have trouble finding that.

The MB replacement is the way to go but it is not cheap, although pattern parts are available I could not vouch for them (Try GSF or Europarts).

I would leave well alone - it may last another couple of years yet.
